Adoption - A Blessed Option!

Adoption is a blessed option for those of us who are unable to have our own children or for those who wish to expand their families by nurturing children who are looking for a "forever" family.  Just as their are many types of children available for adoption, the reasons for adopting are varied and numerous. Some of you may also be interested in adopting a pet for your family.  We have recently adopted two cats.  One was a stray that was hungry and wimpering at our door. We took him in and then began looking for a buddy for him to play with.  We found Boswell's new "furever" friend at a  great organization called "Reach Out Rescue, NFP".  Their website is: http://www.rornfp.org. They have many dogs and cats waiting for their "furever" home.  The website and rescue is run by volunteers, so please allow at least 48 hours for response time.

Pastor Steve and I were unable to have our own biological children.  We became foster/adoptive parents and have had the pleasure of adopting 3 of the 8 children who have graced our homes at different times.  Every child who has walked through our home has been deeply loved and sorely missed when they were moved to other locations or families.

We are a multi-cultural family - proud parents of 3 wonderful and amazing children.  (As parents don't we all feel that way about our kids?) We have found the magazine below to be most helpful in our journey as adoptive parents.  Many of the articles are beneficial regardless of how you have grown your family. Happy reading!

Many parents are putting their adoption stories in writing. Here's how to create a moving memoir to share with your child and family -- or the world at large.

Shaohannah's Hope: Experience the Miracle of Adoption

Adoption: to take by choice into a relationship as one’s own

Adoption is clearly God’s heart. It says in Ephesians 1:5, “…He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will.” There are roughly 100 million orphans around the world and if God can adopt us into His family and call us His own, it is our hope that you consider following His example by adopting.

  • Adoption Grants: One of the ways that we make this possible is by reducing the financial barriers to adoption through adoption grants. Because the need for adoption grants greatly surpasses any one organization's ability to fund them all, we recommend also investigating alternative means of adoption assistance.

  • Engaging the Church: We also exist to engage the church to care for orphans.  For this reason, we have developed the For the Church section in order to empower faith communities to live out the church's mandate to care for orphans and reflect God's heart for adoption, joining Him in His Kingdom work.

We invite you to experience the miracle of adoption, opening your heart and home to a child in need of a permanent home and a loving family. Whether a child has become an orphan as a result of abandonment or parental loss, right now, millions of children are dreaming of a haven called home.

The amazing invitation that God has for us is that when we step into the realm of adoption and orphan care, we find that God Himself is there, the true Father to the fatherless.  The opportunity to enter into adoption and orphan care is both an opportunity to glorify God by presenting the world with a picture of His heart -- and to come and know Him.
